Toads & Preparation!

July 1, 2010 in Daily Life

Holy crap, it’s officially July!  My last day of work for two weeks was yesterday and as per usual, it was pretty crappy.  I don’t mind my job or the section I’m assigned to, it’s all the added things that annoy me.  When you’re a temporary employee, you kind of get treated like crap.  I’m lucky that the people I work with and the area I’m usually in is filled with just genuinely nice and respectful people.  Unfortunately, when I go upstairs, all of that changes.  Even my husband’s coworkers can be pretty shitty to me when he’s not around.

Then you’ve got the special breed of people who are just dicks in and of themselves.  I ended up talking to a former temporary employee who everyone says is such a “hard worker” and “good guy” who now works upstairs; honestly, I just don’t see it and our conversation yesterday reaffirms my suspicions.  He asked me a couple of questions, like if we were planning to stay here.  I said that I wasn’t sure, but we probably would (which is a lie, but you don’t run around shouting to the rooftops you hate WV and are leaving).  He comes back with, “yeah, well, I’m getting my training, hopefully getting full-time employment and then I’m gone.”  Wow, dude, you’ll never get that far if you keep talking like that.  Our departments really, really hate training people just to see them leave!  He was also complaining about his training and just wanting to leave.

It doesn’t end there, no, it only gets worse.  This leads us to IDs, since he’s not from WV, and I mentioned how mine is still PA and doesn’t expire for another two years or so.  I plan on keeping it, I like it, it has a picture from when I had my blue hair.  You’d have thought I’d just said I was planning to rob an international bank.  I laughed it off, mentioned that it was just underneath, and that I’ve done other colors, too.  He essentially called me a druggie and said I would have to be one to do something that stupid and was condescending about it the entire time.  Not everyone agrees with my hair choices, but holy crap, no one has ever been that mean about it!  He asks me if I have another job and I said no.  So, he asked me what I do when I’m not here and I just said that I clean, cook, do all the stuff my husband doesn’t.  He comes off with, “well, if you had another job…” and just went on from there.  I mentioned that I get up and make my husband’s breakfast and lunch and he says, again, that “well, he is bringing in the money” and I said I’d do it regardless if I had a job or not.  He made some noises about his wife-to-be probably tell him to get bent and do it himself.

The entire time, he had this condescending mannerism… it was just kind of appalling.  I told my husband about it and he was livid.  To me, it wasn’t a big deal, it just reaffirmed my belief that this guy is just a complete toad.  My husband wasn’t happy about the way he talked to me, but I could have ended the conversation at anytime.  Still, it made me so thankful to have my husband.  He may be a retarded guy sometimes, but he doesn’t have the problems the other guy apparently does.  I hugged my husband and kissed his neck and ended up tickling him so that resulted in chasing him around, making kissy noises.  We are not your stable, family moment couple, but we work… somehow.

Work stuff aside, I need to start preparing for Key West.  We leave tomorrow around 8am.  We’re driving straight on, hoping to hit or at least get near Universal Studios by Friday night (my father-in-law has been known to drive late) and then visit Universal Studios most of Saturday and then get to Key West by sometime midday on Sunday.  My dolphin encounter is scheduled for the day after our anniversary, so Wednesday… the middle of our vacation.  Everything else is pretty much unwritten, fly by the seat of your pants whatever.  One of my husband’s coworkers is going to check in on Loki while we’re gone.  She’s coming over tonight so we can go over the plants/cats thing.

I’m making a list in my head of all the stuff I need to do today, so I might as well write it out so I don’t forget.  Everything is pretty and shiny clean, but I still have some stuff to do…

  • Pack the suitcase
  • Vacuum the entire apartment, again
  • Wash all the dirty dishes
  • Wipe down the counters of the kitchen & bathroom
  • Clean up my scary messy computer desk
  • Change out the cat litter
  • Find some time to exercise
  • Wash all remaining dirty clothes
  • Ensure DS lite, DSi XL, and cell phones are charged
  • Clear out the camera, make sure to bring battery charger
  • Call dad about the weird call I got yesterday–our numbers are VERY similar and differ by only one number

Hm… I think that’s everything that I can think of at the moment.  I should also mention I got my hair cut and thinned out over the weekend!  It’s so manageable now and I have half-assed bangs.  I wasn’t brave enough for full on bang action.  Anyway, I didn’t get much cut off, just the dead stuff so about an inch or two.  Yay for healthy hair coming back!
