Well, we’re back from vacation… unfortunately. Before any of that, though, everything went really well and we had a lot of fun! We left a day early so we’d get a chance to explore Universal Studios and Isle of Adventure on Saturday. We got to see the brand spanking new Wizarding World! I’m not a huge Harry Potter fan, but I do like the universe. I loved trolling around the life-sized Hogwarts and Hogsmeade areas! The rides were also a whole lot of fun.
I’ve never been to such an elaborate park before, so I was quite wowed by everything. I loved how they made things look bigger than they actually were! Every area was pretty amazing and I was quite thrilled to finally see the Jurassic Park area. I was a huge, huge dinosaur fanatic when I was little. I snagged a Jurassic Park t-shirt and a Ravenclaw one, too. I love t-shirt souvenirs! I just wish we had more time for Isles of Adventure… we spent a lot of time in Universal and then it refused to stop raining so we got back on the road.
We arrived in Key West Sunday afternoon and had to troll around a bit before our condo was ready. Apparently, the prior occupants decided they didn’t want to leave. Unfortunately for them, the owners kind of take precedence over renters… but that’s lucky for us! We spent Sunday and Monday mostly just chilling out and checking out Duval St.
This was my third year visiting and I finally got to check out the cemetery. Of course, this also happened on my husband and my first anniversary! What a place to visit. I took a lot of neat macro pictures and also some normal ones, too. Unfortunately, I made the stupid mistake of forgetting to apply sunscreen. We were out at around 1pm-2pm… one of the worst times to catch the sun! Needless to say, I was rewarded with a very bright red King Tut shaped necklace sunburn. Way to go me! Even my legs and arms got burnt, I was only slightly miserable…
We went to the Butterfly place from last year after the cemetery and one of the pretty blue butterflies landed on me! I was so excited. We even got a picture of it as proof. It’s one of the rarest in the little sanctuary.
Wednesday was my dolphin encounter. I ended up with the same dolphin as last year… Pax! I was happy, he’s such an energetic and expressive dolphin. I had a blast, even with my crazy sunburn! There was also some crazy German/Austrian guy there in a speedo. Everyone was pretty surprised by it, including the trainers. Amusement was surely had by all, thanks to that guy!
I left with a little pendant of Pax’s dorsal fin–it’s from a cast of his actual fin, since dolphin’s dorsal fins are like fingerprints. It’s very cute. I got a new, longer chain for the Atocha cross I got last year. I got a t-shirt, too… and if I had more time, probably would have gotten more!
The in-laws hung out at Bahia Honda and waited for us to finish the encounter. Once we were finished, they picked us up and we went to Bahia Honda to check it out. It’s a natural beach, so they don’t comb it or clean it up. It’s gorgeous! The in-laws said it got some award a few years ago–one of the best beaches in America… I’d believe it! You could walk ALL the way out and still stand! I haven’t been to a beach since I was about seven, so I was thrilled. We hung out, riding the soft waves and trying to avoid the sun. I kept my shoulders and chest covered.
All in all, we had a great time. We got to ride a boat (God, I miss boating), hung out by the pool, visited the local sights, and just relaxed. Spending this much time with someone’s significant other might drive others crazy, but I loved it. I’m actually kind of lonely now that he’s off at work. It’ll take some time adjusting back into the old routine… sigh.
We did have one snag. We run a private WoW server and one of the people we thought was a friend started some shit… right on our anniversary. Needless to say, my husband tried to hide it from me (until a better time) after my initial reaction and when I found it… I got pissed. Not at him, but at the person and the situation itself. I always handle this stuff, but this time, it’s his turn. We’re both pretty hurt by it and I’m hoping this person realizes my husband is not a doormat, damn it.
Husband will be home soon, he’s at classes all this week… another sad thing for me while I’m at work, but that’ll wait until later. Loki is also SUPER clingy, which I won’t complain about!
